The Messenger - March 2019
After 10 years of serving at Carriage Town Ministries, I’m hard-pressed to think of a challenge at least one guest hasn’t experienced before coming here.
Chronic pain. Financial problems. Relationship struggles. Death in the family. Near-death experience. Homelessness. Joblessness. Loneliness. They’ve all been carried through our doors.
Nobody is immune from hardship. Yet, difficulty often causes us to lose hope. We just can’t see beyond — or through — the circumstance. But here’s some Good News.

Home.
There’s something about the word that makes you feel at peace, refreshed, and like you belong. When you don’t have a place to call home, you can feel the opposite. Insecure. Tired. Alone.
At a time when most of us are preparing to spend the holidays with loved ones, I am thankful that your generosity provides hurting guests with a place to call home at Carriage Town Ministries…

Thanks to generous partners in ministry, Carriage Town is excited to begin our third year of our Summer Education and Enrichment Program.
Through this literacy-focused program, children staying at our Family Center, as well as children from the community, have a unique opportunity to accelerate their learning over the summer months and participate in fun extracurricular activities.

As a Michigan native, I am thankful for experiencing four full seasons most of my life. Spring is especially powerful as we visibly see light and life burst forthafter a cold, darkened winter. I don’t have to wonder if spring will come. Goddemonstrates his faithfulness year after year.
The Messenger - November 2017
Every holiday season, I’m reminded of a young man who came to Carriage Town Ministries in his early twenties. His mom was an addict. His dad was never around. I’m glad God led him here one Thanksgiving for some guidance and a genuine expression of care. After leaving Carriage Town, this young man stayed in touch. But life wasn’t perfect, and he fell on hard times. One Christmas season, he reappeared at our doors. Come to find out he walked from Detroit to Flint in the middle of a Michigan winter to be with people he knew would make him feel safe.

At Carriage Town Ministries, we’ve become deeply invested in the “genetic make-up” of our programs. That’s why we’ve made being a redemptive productive community an important part of our DNA.

Making sure homeless neighbors have access to proper healthcare is critical to their healing and recovery. That’s why I’m very thankful for friends like you who have committed time, resources and skills to making sure the Carriage Town Ministries Health Screening & Education Clinic is available for anyone in the community who is in need of basic health services.
