Carriage Town Ministries Back to the Books Internship

Carriage Town Ministries (CTM) is able to provide an interesting and effective internship. Position Summary

If you are interested in experience in a non-profit or event planning, Back to the Books Internship will provide an interesting internship.  It is an educational event where needy children receive vouchers for clothing and shoes and a backpack filled with school supplies.  The event includes classes for Mom, taught by certified teachers and educational activities for children. The Back to the Books (B2B) intern will be involved in all aspects of the B2B event. The event, which will service approximately 100 students.

Dates:  June 24  - August 9

Times: 10 hours per week; days are flexible

Event day: August 3

Holidays:  July 4

Responsibilities include:

●     Promotion of the event to obtain sponsorships and donations

●     Promotion to clients

●     Communication with stores who accept the vouchers

●     Securing volunteers for the event, including teachers for children and parents, Children’s Bible teacher, music, etc.

●     Organizing donations of school supplies and, if available, clothing

●     Overseeing the event, including registration of clients and directing volunteers

Qualifications:

●     Enrolled in a college or university

●     Strong commitment to treating others with integrity and respect, and a robust work ethic

●     Strong communication skills and high level of inter-personal skills to work effectively with others

●     Organizational skills

●     Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word

The Carriage Town Ministries (CTM) Business Intern will assist the Director of Business in deciphering data, reviewing best practices, and implementing a first ever planned giving program. If you’re a problem solving data guru who wants a meaningful and impactful internship, this is the one for you.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

●     Assist the Business Director in creating reports in Quickbooks on current, past, and projected future income and expenses.

●     Coordinate on-site planned giving events.

●     Research best practices in Planned giving programs.

●     Draft and Coordinate cost-reduction strategies across CTM’s campus.

●     Analyze donor demographics.

Carriage Town Ministries Counseling/Social Work Internship

Position Summary

The Counseling and/or Social Worker intern will work with CTM residents by conducting BPS (bio-psycho-social) interviews to help with assessing level of needs. In addition, the intern will be able to observe, and potentially participate in, the resident intake process. Depending on the abilities and expressed interest, group teaching opportunities could be made available. If the intern is a junior level BA or Graduate level student individual counseling opportunities will be available with residents. All of this is contingent upon the agreement between the Intern, their site director and a CTM director. 

The internship dates are flexible; 12 weeks starting mid June.

Responsibilities:

●     Conduct Biopsychosocial Interviews

●     Observe and Assist with the intake process along with assigned staff members

●     Teaching opportunities

●     Provide safe environment for staff, residents, and visitors.

●     Understand all house rules and procedures as outlined in the “CTM House Rules and Procedures” and ensure compliance.

●     Handle all communications both internal to CTM and external with the public with respect and professionalism.

●     Faithfully complete daily log to provide between shift communication and documentation.

Skills and Abilities

The following skills and abilities are required to be considered for this position:

●     High level of inter-personal skills to work effectively with others.

●     Must possess a patient and caring burden for the homeless and the lost.

●     Must be able to manage conflict and other difficult situations without making them worse.

●     Must be able to balance compassion with a firm commitment to follow all CTM rules.

●     Enrolled in a  college or university majoring in counselling or social work.

●     Strong commitment to treating others with integrity and respect, as well as a robust work ethic

Position Summary-Education Interns (2 available)

We are seeking an energetic and passionate education intern to work alongside and assist the lead educator with our summer education and enrichment program. The summer education intern will work with school-age children between the ages of 4-14.  On any given day, we may house anywhere between 15-20 + homeless children at CTM. During the summer we have the unique opportunity to positively impact their lives. The education intern will be responsible to help the lead educator coordinate a summer program that provides a positive learning environment that focuses on preventing the “summer slide” or loss of academic skills and knowledge over the summer months.

Each week there will be an enrichment field trip for the students. The interns will help plan and coordinate these weekly trips.

Dates:  June 17 - August 3 (including Back to the Books on August 3)

Times: Monday - Thursday 7:30 - 2:30; Friday 7:30 - 1:00;

additional time for lesson planning

Holidays:  July 4

Major Duties and Responsibilities

●     Assist with and implement engaging and age-appropriate lessons and activities

●     Assist with the assessment of each child for their current reading and math level at the beginning and end of the summer to monitor and track growth

●     Track student’s individual progress

●     Assist with the coordination of enrichment activities for students each Friday

●     Collaborate with the lead educator and/or volunteers to effectively provide a safe, effective, and fun learning environment

●     Use group management skills to engage all children in daily activities

●     Assist with Back to the Books on the final Saturday

Qualifications
The following qualifications are required to be considered for this position:

●      Enrolled in an undergraduate education program and at least a Junior standing or experience as a teacher’s aide

●      Current Certification or ability to be certified in Adult/Child CPR/First Aid preferred.
