As the needs grow in our community we are positioning ourselves to
meet those needs. It is extremely important that those who are at the
bottom have an opportunity to meet Jesus there. And mysteriously and
wonderfully, Jesus has assigned us to do His work!
It is with this privilege in mind that we have embarked on the
"218 University Project", a
transition house for men who have graduated from our mission and are
ready to take the next step toward independence and productivity. "218 University" is a historic house in the
Carriage Town Historic District of Flint, Michigan. The renovation is
underway and the house is scheduled to "re- open" in late October 2010.
This project is not only important to the "success end" of our
ministry for men; but it will also become a template for a women's
transition house in our strategic mission plan which includes more
beds for women who have graduated from the "CTM Success Program" and
frees up more beds for women and children at our Family Center. We
have many "turn-aways" each month simply because we lack space. Those
we turn away are women and children we may never see again and with
whom we've lost the chance to share Christ.
Clean up of the old house donated to us at 218 University Drive was
underway with the start of February. A safety talk followed by prayer
begins each work day. Rhoads and Johnson (General Contractor) and THA
(architects) will help us meet all the requirements of the historic
district as we press ahead.
If you'd like to work on the project there will be phases where we
will need and encourage volunteer labor. You may express your
interests though our
Volunteer Coordinator Cindy Johns at
cjohns@carriagetown.org.
Those wishing to partner with us can designate a gift to "218
University Project" or "Transition House" making checks out to
"Carriage Town Ministries" 605 Garland, Flint, Michigan 48503. You can
also donate
to the project online.
