You never know where you might run into Dennis St. Clair. Whether he's collecting
coin donation boxes from local businesses, accepting contributions fo food and
clothing on behalf of the Mission, or driving clients to doctor's appointments,
he always finds some way to serve.
As the husband of the Executive Director, it's no surprise that Dennis enjoys
volunteering at the Mission. However, his motivation is even more personal than
family ties.
Recently, one of Dennis's legs was amputated below the knee due to circulation
problems that couldn't be resolved. "I took half a day to mourn," he says, "but I
decided 'Tomorrow, I'm going to keep going.'" Through God, Dennis has been able to
keep a positive attitude through his loss.
"I try to be an example to those at the Mission, even with a simple thing like a
friendly greeting in the mornings." Our guests see that Dennis's happiness is genuine,
even though he has also suffered. There are even a few men at the Mission who have
prosthetics too, and Dennis's outlook gives them hope.
"Volunteering gives me satifaction because I am at the point in life where I have
the time to do anything," Dennis says. "I choose to do this to give back to the community."
Dennis's service is a true example of faith at work. We're so grateful for his presence here
at the Mission!
